It’s no secret, John Wayne loved Arizona and was deeply affected by it’s frontier beauty while filming westerns here in his early career. What’s not widely known, is that The Duke was especially fond of Greer and The White Mountains who was a local area ranch owner and regular guest of the Butler’s here at the lodge. Larger than life on the screen, John Wayne was the consummate man’s man who, in real life, could and would go toe-to-toe with the best of them.
